Georgetown offers small town charm and plenty of great wine. It’s less than a one-hour drive from Austin yet feels a world away. What more could you want?

All three of these Georgetown wineries are situated on the main square near the historic Williamson County Courthouse. In fact, they’re all located within a one block radius of one another.

Wine tasting in Georgetown, Texas could not be easier. All you need to do is drive to Georgetown, park your car, and enjoy a luxurious afternoon of wine tasting.

How to access Georgetown wineries in Texas


Georgetown, Texas is located within easy driving distance of several major cities.

If you live in either Austin, San Antonio, or the Dallas–Fort Worth area you’re in luck! You could easily drive from your hometown to Georgetown.

If you’re not a Texas native then you’ll need to fly into one of those cities, rent a car, and drive from the airport to downtown Georgetown.

Georgetown is located 28 miles north of Austin, Texas. The drive should take between 33 to 35 minutes without traffic. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) serves the city.

Georgetown is located about 162 miles south of the Dallas–Fort Worth area. The drive should take about 2 hours and 20 minutes if you don’t face much traffic. Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) serves the metropolitan area.

Georgetown is located 106 miles northeast of San Antonio, Texas. The drive should take a little under two hours. San Antonio International Airport (SAT) serves the city.

No matter which route you take you will need a car to access the town of Georgetown. But good news: you definitely do not need a car in order to access the Georgetown wineries on this list. In fact, you’re better off parking your car and walking from one Georgetown tasting room to the next.

Barons Creek Vineyards


Barons Creek Vineyards is among the most well-known wineries in Texas. They have multiple tasting rooms spread throughout Texas Hill Country in towns including FredericksburgGranbury, McKinney, Dallas (Bishop Arts District), and Georgetown.

Their Georgetown tasting room is housed in an historic building on the main Georgetown square. The front facade faces the historic Williamson County Courthouse. The whole look is very refined, very historic.

The Georgetown tasting room also boasts a piano lounge, a custom-built wine tasting bar, and a patio with plenty of outdoor seating. Wine tastings includes five wines that are enjoyable for both seasoned wine lovers and those who are new to wine.

Barons Creek Vineyards produces a large variety of wines including Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Zinfandel, Chardonnay, Tempranillo, and Albariño.

They work with Texas grapes, Washington grapes, and California grapes. Barons Creek even sources grapes from vineyards near Barcelona, Spain. 

Check their website for unique events like the annual Georgetown Grape Stomp in October. This special event is a great opportunity to stomp some grapes the old fashioned way!

Grape Creek Vineyards is a premier winery in the Texas Hill Country area.

Their award-winning wines revolve around red blends that feature grapes like Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Ruby Cabernet, Syrah, and Petit Verdot.

Grape Creek Vineyards has three tasting rooms throughout Texas. There’s a tasting room in downtown Georgetown, another in downtown Fredericksburg, and a beautiful Tuscan-inspired estate just outside of Fredericksburg.

Grape Creek Vineyards is actually part of a larger group called Heath Family Brands that includes five wineries. You can sample a taste of several different wines from these five wineries when you visit the Grape Creek Vineyards tasting room in Georgetown.

If you’re looking for variety this is a great stop.

They offer three wine tasting options. The Comparative Tasting compares and contrasts the collections from Grape Creek Vineyards and their sister winery Invention Vineyards. The Sparkling Tasting offers four current vintages from Heath Sparkling Wines. And the Terroir Tasting offers pours from some of the world’s best AVAs.

The Grape Creek Vineyards Georgetown tasting room opens at noon seven days a week.

Georgetown Winery calls itself Williamson County’s “first and most award-winning winery.” According to their website, they’ve won over 300 awards since 2008. That’s quite impressive!

Georgetown Winery produces their award-winning wines locally at The Thirsty Mule Winery, which is their sister winery located in Liberty Hill, Texas.

But their tasting room located on Georgetown’s main square is the perfect place to sample their wares.

Georgetown Winery produces a mix of white wines, red wines, dessert wines, and sweet specialty wines made from Texas and California grapes.

Wine tastings cost $15 per person, or $18 if you’d like to keep a souvenir glass.

Live music performances are available every Friday and Saturday night as well as Sunday afternoon.
